Not TO DO & have TO DO
Siddha treatment will be incomplete, when the patients are not advised pathyam. Pathyam means regulation of diet and personal habits. Some food substances may aggravate the disease; some items may worsen itching; some substances may deteriorate/ reduce the efficacy of medicines; some edible things may hinder the curative rate; therefore diet regulation is important. Patients are advised not to have the vegetables like brinjal, bitter guard, Agathi keerai, Mango, Jack fruit, Lemon, Orange, Tamarind, pumpkin, bottle guard strictly. Better to have fully vegetarian food always because fish, mutton, chicken, egg like non-vegetarian food items will aggravate the condition. The usage of sour taste food items especially, tomato also should be restricted. Smoking, consuming alcohol, tobacco chewing, overindulgence in sex has to be avoided. Give up the habit of using perfumes, highly scented talcum powders, chemical soap, hair dye, cosmetics will add value to the treatment. Do not expose to chill weather. Reducing stress factor by practicing yoga- Pranayamam-Dhyanam is very crucial in the treatment course. If it is not possible, medicines prepared by the inclusion of Vallarai, Brahmi, sangupushpi, valuluvai, asmathaomum, Amukkara will assist to reduce physical and mental stress.

What are the areas will be affected with lesions?
Psoriasis may affect any region in the skin in human body. In majority of cases, the disease will be started over the scalp (scalp psoriasis), behind the ears and then may be extended to other area of the body. In such cases, the problem might have been ignored at first by thinking that of dandruff and supposed to try many of antidandruff lotion. Some patients will develop psoriatic lesions only in flexural (flexural psoriasis) areas like arm pit, around genitals, under breasts, in between abdominal folds, fingers, toes, behind the ears etc. Psoriasis may affect palm and sole exclusively (palmar and plantar psoriasis) and nails alone (psoriatic nails). Plaque psoriasis is the most common form of psoriasis and affects 80 to 90% of people with psoriasis. Plaque psoriasis typically appears as raised areas of inflamed skin covered with silvery white scaly skin. Modest percentage of people may develop widespread inflammation and exfoliation (erythroderma). Sometimes lesions may be accompanied with pustular eruptions (pustular psoriasis).

Secret to avoid Psoriasis
Clarification-1
Is psoriasis a contagious disease?
No. Absolutely not, since it is not due to infection in origin. Contact with affected person will not create any problem for others. In my clinical practice I treat numerous persons with this complaint; no report had been obtained in this basis. Personal hygiene is essential for these patients to avoid opportunistic fungal which leads to itching, beside dry nature of skin considered one among the cause. If any discharge or pus collection is seen at the site of excoriation, a suitable form of antibiotic could be given to manage instantly.

Psoriasis and Siddha medicine
Psoriasis is known as “Kalanjagapadai” in Siddha and it is characterized by Induration, Erythema and Scaling. Auto immunity also plays a major role in this disease as per modern medicine. Many medicines are found to be effective for this disease in Siddha and take minimum 3-4 months of treatment for cure in majority of cases but they have to stick upon diet restriction always to prevent further episode, these restriction are simple but essential for the persons who wants to get rid of the problem further. Patients are advised to take precautions as per “kala ozhukkam “- seasonal restrictions especially in the months of winter. Psoriatic arthritis also a bigger problem due to changes in lifestyle which needs a special care for months together. There is no permanent cure for any disease in the world from any medical system. The same dictum will applicable for psoriasis also but can postponed next episode for years if they are supposed to follow Siddha advises and drugs.
